Yucef Merhi, Venezuelan artist and writer who currently lives and works in New York, once again deals with the idea of Subversion with Security (2003), a database printed on paper, which is unfolded on one of the walls of the exhibition room. In what Suazo classified as a “ferocious effect”, arising precisely from the simplicity of his media. The work shows, in a scattered display, the personal data (name, telephone, address, credit card number) of the subscribers of a telephone company, whose systems were meddled with by the artist. Merhi, who in his training as a philosopher and poet has entered into the relationships of language, presents a work reflective of his interest in Net-Art, which underlines the importance of the new technologies as an aesthetic instrument. In Big Sur, a recent exhibition at The Project Gallery in Los Angeles, the artist presented Maximum Security, a work consisting of the electronic mails issuing from the personal account of the present Venezuelan President, Hugo Chávez, from the time of his candidature, which were used to wallpaper the gallery as it was a metaphor or a spatial poem.
 

Yucef Merhi, artista y escritor venezolano que actualmente vive y trabaja en Nueva York, toma de nuevo la metodología de la subversión con Seguridad (2003), una base de datos impresa en papel, la cual se despliega en una de las paredes de la sala. En lo que Suazo calificó como un “efecto feroz” surgido precisamente por la sencillez de sus medios, la obra muestra de manera caótica los datos personales (nombre, teléfono, dirección, número de tarjeta de crédito) de los suscriptores de una compañía telefónica cuyos sistemas fueron intervenidos por el artista. Merhi, quien en su formación como filósofo y poeta ha experimentado las relaciones del lenguaje, apunta un trabajo inscrito en el interés por el Net-Art, que subraya la importancia de las nuevas tecnologías en el arte contemporáneo, asumiendo la intervención de los sistemas informáticos como instrumento estético. Recientemente en Big Sur, una exposición individual en la galería The Project de Los Angeles, el artista presentó Máxima Seguridad, una obra compuesta por los correos electrónicos de la cuenta personal del actual presidente venezolano Hugo Chávez desde que era candidato, los cuales fueron utilizados para tapizar la galería a la manera de una metáfora o poema espacial.
